SYDNEY SKYLIGHT PLANNING GUIDE

What affects skylight
installation cost?

The skylight itself is one part of the price. The roof opening, access and finished ceiling also shape the quote. Here is how to prepare a useful brief and compare the proposed work.

This is a quote-comparison guide, not a price list. We do not publish installed price ranges without a defined scope. Your project price is confirmed after the requirements have been reviewed.

WHAT YOU ARE PRICING

Product plus
installation.

A catalogue price describes a product. A supply-and-install quote should explain the work needed to make it part of your home.

A new opening, a replacement and a Skydoor access project can have very different requirements. Compare quotes against the same brief and ask about anything that has been left to another trade.

01

Product and specification

Range, dimensions, glazing and fixed or opening operation affect the selection. Include any proposed blinds, controls or accessories in the comparison.

02

Roof work and access

The roof covering, opening, support and weatherproofing define the roof work. Access to the work area and any equipment required also need to be considered.

03

The finish inside

A shaft between roof and ceiling, internal lining, trim and painting can be separate parts of the scope. Establish who is responsible for each before comparing totals.

Different products.
Different briefs.

Custom skylights
Start with the design, dimensions and opening. Customisation and the work around a larger or unusual opening need a project-specific scope.

Atlite Skydoors
Include the access route and intended roof use in the brief. Pricing the glazed hatch alone leaves out the wider access project.

VELUX skylights
Compare the same model, size, installation and accessories. A fixed unit and a powered opening unit are different specifications.

A useful brief saves guesswork.

  • Project suburb and property type
  • The room and proposed location
  • Roof material and shape, if known
  • Preferred product and approximate size
  • New opening or existing skylight
  • Plans or photos available, plus your project stage

If something is unknown, say so. Start with the details you have.

BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Cost questions.

Can I get a price without knowing the exact roof pitch?

You can start an enquiry with the information you have. Product suitability and the installation requirements still need to be confirmed before the final scope and price can be settled.

Is replacing a skylight the same as installing a new one?

Not necessarily. A replacement depends on the existing opening and surrounding roof and ceiling condition. A change of size or model can change the work required. Mention the existing unit when you enquire.

Is internal painting included?

Check your individual quote. Lining, plastering and painting should each have a clear responsibility, whether included in the skylight scope or arranged separately.

Will choosing a smaller skylight always cost less overall?

Size is only one variable. The roof work, access, product configuration and internal finish also affect the total. Compare complete scopes rather than dimensions alone.
